Published routine method for quantification of anions in tap water and natural waters

Quantification of the seven common anions is an important part of water quality control. This published ion chromatography method is from a scientific paper that presents full validation data according to the ICH guidelines to meet the requirements of laboratories acting under the ISO 17025 accreditation.

This analysis of fluoride, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulphate, was performed on a modular system equipped with suppressed conductivity detection using items from several vendors. The validated procedure met all the criteria in terms of selectivity, specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision and lower limits of detection and quantification. The full scientific paper shares results from when the method was applied to analysis of several different water sources across Armenia.

Injection of low-level validation standard for analysis of anions in water using a IonPac AS22 column (250×4 mm) and an eluent containing 4.5 mM Na₂CO₃ and 1.4 mM NaHCO₃ in ultra-pure water pumped at 1.2 mL/min at 30 °C. Background reduced by XAMS suppressor with ASUREX-A100 automatic regenerator. Eluent pumping by a Knauer Azura HPLC system equipped with a Shimadzu CDD-10Avp conductivity detector. Injection of 10 µL standard containing fluoride (1 ppm), chloride (1.5 ppm), nitrite (1.5 ppm), bromide (5 ppm), nitrate (1 ppm), phosphate (2.5 ppm), sulfate (7.5 ppm) in water. Data was generated by Dr. Lusine Sahakyan at Yerevan State University and published in the scientific paper Pharmacia, 71 (2024) 22412.
